Experimenting over the weekend

A client calls me this morning. His POS software is only partly working, what do I find out they have been experimenting with a speed booster program. I could not fix it over the phone although I think I patched them until their local computer repair person can come to put things right.

Although the weekends are often a great time for the retailer to experiment, the problem is that if something wrong, it is harder to get someone to help them out.

This is the situation with some programs, every computer today are set up individually, and each is incredibly complex. Any software that changes the setting is trouble. So if you are going to try something like this, make sure that its a well-tested program as even well-tested programs by companies Microsoft and Google sometimes cause problems as there is always an element of risk.

The weekend is not a good time to experiment.

There are some approved ways you can speed up your computers which I will discuss in another post.
