Mon, 02/03/2020 Sales sign

Here is a tip, if you are going to make in your shop, a sale sign make sure that it is red. People have been trained to that red is the colour for sale signs.

I saw a study a few days ago, which stated that the average person has on average 90 seconds to decide on a sign. After that, they are gone. And what they see first is not the message but the colour. Red attracts attention.

Tue, 03/03/2020 Consider whether you are underinsuranced

I was speaking to an insurance assessor over one of our clients who is working in the region.

Its quite weird the damage they suffered, the shop is generally fine but they have some cows as an investment, the cows are fine but the farm is an almost totally burnt out. How did the cows survive unharmed when everything was burnt is a mystery?

Wed, 04/03/2020 Some Energy Saving Tips

In these days where electricity is seen by the government as a great source of tax collection, so resulting in price rises, it is worthwhile looking at the power your computers are consuming.

Thu, 05/03/2020 PC EFTPOS

Rather than having a separate unit which is independent of the point of sale, what PC EFTPOS integrates the EFTPOS handling into the point of sale software.

There are many advantages in doing this, here are some.

1) It reduces operator errors by eliminating double data entries and re-keying errors from a manual entry on the EFTPOS.

No more accidentally keying into the EFTPOS terminal $20 instead of $50.

Fri, 06/03/2020 Invoicing

Invoicing is now easier in our cash register in the new version as we have automated more the operators' work easier. Using it you can print the invoice in seconds, with minimum steps, you do not need a keystroke as it can use a touch screen but if you like you can use the keyboard shortcut keys.

This will save you time and effort, mainly if you are dealing with busy businesses and customers.

Mon, 09/03/2020 Coffee

I was asked today by one of my clients about coffee as we used to have a strong association with a large coffee machine distributor. Plus this is also a subject that I do claim much expertise. I am a certified barista. I worked as one during my university days and am an avid coffee addict.

Coffee is a huge market in Australia and its not a hard market to enter. Years ago, when I was a kid, if people wanted to talk about business, they went to the pub. Now they go to a coffee shop.

Wed, 11/03/2020 The frenzy stockpiling of toilet paper

Right now because of coronavirus. We are in the middle of a shopping frenzy for toilet paper.  Shops have entirely sold out even though many are getting daily deliveries.

Explore search interest for Toilet paper by time, location and popularity on Google Trends

Thu, 12/03/2020 CRM update

What differentiates large and small organisations is often their Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software. What I often see is that large organisations often know more about their customers' details then small ones. This is a big plus when it comes to winning new customers or getting an existing customer to buy more.

The most popular and successful is birthday promotions. A special offer goes off to the customer on their birthday.

Mon, 16/03/2020 Coronavirus (COVID-19) resources for business

Victorian Chamber of Commerce has here put together a COVID-19 (Coronavirus) resources for business here with many useful links for you.

I do not know what to say about it, no matter what you think of the Coronavirus effect, it is clear to our community this is Economic and Social disaster.

Tue, 17/03/2020 Coronavirus retail tip

This is a community service and marketing tip that you may want to consider that is now being tried overseas and now in Australia.

Tue, 17/03/2020 Woolworths and Coronavirus today

A friend of mine went to Woolworths for the oldies shopping today. He got there at 7.15 AM. He found no toilet paper (no delivery apparently), no eggs no sugar etc.

Wed, 18/03/2020 Upcoming Price Increase

Computer suppliers have been calling us over the past few days. They are telling us that barring a miracle, as the Australian dollar is currently sitting at its lowest levels in almost 20 years and still going south, that they cannot honour their current pricelists and new ones will soon be issued. I expect that the new computer hardware price will probably be at a 3-5% increase.

Thu, 19/03/2020 ‘Just Walk Out’ tech coming very soon

Amazon has launched a new business to sell its 'Just Walk Out’ technology that it uses now in its cashier-less Amazon Go stores to other retailers and apparently many shops are interested.

Some interesting points are that

- the site has no pricing.

- Support appears to be over phone and email.

Fri, 20/03/2020 Speed up Windows 10

On most POS computers, Cortana is not required. Cortana is a virtual assistant created by Microsoft for Windows 10 Few use it, most in my experience that use a  virtual assistant prefer Google assistant or Amazon Alex.

Sat, 21/03/2020 Coronavirus a rant

The NBN in a client site was supposed to be installed on the 28/02/20. It got delayed till the 19/02/20, then was cancelled but in the last few hours, NBN got someone else, so the NBN installation was done, but from the internet company's app, it is clear that they have not got the word that it is installed.

Mon, 23/03/2020 Debt controlling

Debt is everywhere, it affects almost every human organisation, in my lifetime, I have seen the greatest empire in the world, the USSR and most important people like the Shah of Iran collapse from it.

They did not have money to pay for people, and because of the debt no-one would lend them more money, soon their worlds collapsed.

Tue, 24/03/2020 Webcam

We all this virus running around, I think many of you are going to find that many schools, suppliers and others are going to be using video conferencing rather than sending people out. Besides being more time effective and cheaper, it also means less social contact.

For most of them, your smartphone is fine, most laptops have an inbuilt camera and microphones already set up. I prefer the laptop as its a bigger picture.

Tue, 24/03/2020 Coronavirus

Ain't this the truth, how we are all feeling now

The coronavirus has created a lot of upheaval and uncertainty in all of our lives. However, despite these worrying times, I want to reassure you that we are here for you and will continue to service your computer and software needs.

Wed, 25/03/2020 How far off are you to last year's sales due to coronavirus?

What many want to know is what effect is this coronavirus having on your business.

What several of my clients are telling me because many people are at home, they are buying very differently now. This I will discuss in another post. Let us first work out where we are up to now.

The report I recommend that you look at first is in the Reporting Documents > Dissection Family Class Period Sales Comparison.

Put in the following details.

Thu, 26/03/2020 eCommerce websites

One point about the current lockdown is that eCommerce is continuing unaffected, I am sure that it is going up. People are not afraid to shop via apps and websites. Many now have nothing to do but research and buy online products that they need.

Fri, 27/03/2020 Video conferencing software review

Most suppliers will have their own favourites, here is a list of ones that I think if you have not got anything to look at that can handle 4+ people and are free to use. For family and friends, you may need it too

Fri, 27/03/2020 Uncertainty over Bauer, on its Pacific Magazines acquisition

It appears that the Bauer may be reconsidering its proposed purchase of Pacific Magazines deal despite getting ACCC approval.

Everyone is sure it has to do with the uncertainly of coronavirus.

If I was Blauer,  I would be wondering about coronavirus firstly what it will do to circulation. Some think that with more people at home, reading magazine will grow in popularity.

Mon, 30/03/2020 Working from home

With our point of sale, there is a range of solutions for remote working. There are many advantages to doing so for one thing it saves time. You do not have to travel to work to get the information you require, and you can work whenever. The other now is that it increases social distance.

Tue, 31/03/2020 Marketing now

Rethink your marketing

Whatever debates people have had in the past about marketing, e.g. social media, discount vouchers vs loyalty programs. The reality is now that the only form of marketing now is online, and the only growing market is online.  The debate is over for the next six months may be longer.
